5 Reasons I Might Not Be a Good Fit to Design Your Website

You've Read:

Even though I would love to be able to design every website for every small business in the Bitterroot Valley, the truth is … I can’t. Because there’s a chance that we might not be a good fit. Just like working with a puzzle, you can’t force a piece to fit where it’s not designed to be.

I thought about it and came up with a list of 5 reasons why we might not be a good fit. If we do business together and I design your website, it’s because we’re a great fit and it’s going to be an awesome experience along with a great website when it’s all done. But let’s make sure we’re a good fit before we start. Here are 5 things to consider before we begin:

  1. DIY or Do-It-Yourself websites like Wix, Squarespace and Weebly are amazing and they can create some beautiful, well crafted websites for your small business. I’ve used their platforms for a number of years and found them to be very easy to use. There is a bit of a learning curve to know how to navigate their sites, use the program and create on the screen what you have envisioned in your head. But if you have a knack for creativity, this may be a better option for you. More importantly, you have to have the time to be able to create your own website. It takes time to learn the program. It takes time to create your website. It takes time to trouble-shoot. But if you have the time to create your own website, a DIY option may be a better fit for you.
  2. To have a professionally built website built for your small business, especially if it’s in the beginning stages, can be a significant investment … and we know that money doesn’t grow on trees! Start-up money and small business budgets can be limited. If you only have a few hundred dollars allocated to building a website, you may want to consider a DIY option mentioned above. Professional websites built on the WordPress platform can be expensive – very expensive. I’ve seen a number of designers and agencies out there that charge between $5000-10,000 for a professional website. That’s not the case with Touch Point Designs, but it is going to cost more than a few hundred dollars.
  3. I’m not a controversial person … and that carries over into my business. If you have a product or service that can be seen as controversial, we probably won’t be a good fit. It has nothing to do with my views or opinions of your product or service. But if you need a website regarding recreational marijuana, gun control, a political campaign, etc. then I’m probably not a good fit to design your website.
  4. Creating a website for a small business is a team effort. It does require a little bit of work on your end. What kind of work? Mostly copy. That is, the website needs to be written in “your voice.” For example, if you’re a chiropractor and need a website, I can’t create the text that goes along with it. You know your industry. You know your business. It needs to have the copy written by you. But I can help you along the way and give you guidance and coaching. I just can’t write it all for you.
  5. My business is built on touch points – individual interactions between you the client and myself – and a lot of those touch points take place in person. I love meeting with my clients at my office or at their place of business. If that’s important to you and you live outside of the Bitterroot Valley, then I may not be a good fit for you as well. But if you do live in the Bitterroot Valley, then there’s nothing better than having a local web designer available to work with you and your small business website.

Did you pass the test? Are we good to go? If not, that’s okay! I completely understand. Next up? An article explaining the reasons that I believe we would be an awesome fit to work together in designing a professional website for your small business.
