Google My Business is the number one way that your local business is going to be found. Period. People type in searches such as “plumber near me” or “bakery in Hamilton, MT.” That’s why you want need your business to show up in what’s called The Map Pack – the first three search results in Google (together with a map). How do you that?
There’s no one simple answer or everyone would be number one! There are some key things that you can do. One of them is consistency.
Take a look at your Google My Business listing. Look at how your name is spelled out … look at the address … the hours, phone number, etc. Now, take a look at how those same elements are listed on your website. Are they the same?
When I did this assessment, I found minor discrepancies on my own site. (Yes, it happens to the best of us … LOL). My address was spelled out on my website but on Google My Business, the word “Road” was abbreviated to “Rd”. It’s a simple and yet important change that I needed to make. Will that one change suddenly change my ranking? Will it award me with a plethora of new clients? No … at least I don’t think so. BUT, if it’s important to Google that things be consistent between Google My Business and my website, then it’s important to me and my business.
The same goes for anywhere that you have your name, address and phone number listed. Yelp, Bing, etc.
Double check your website with how those elements are listed compared to Google My Business. It’s an easy fix and yet important step to take.
