In order for your business to be found, you have to be using the right keywords. Keywords are those words that your prospective clients are typing in their search. If you’re not using the right words, you won’t be found. Your competitors might, but it should be you! If only you knew the right keyword to use …
Where To Find Your Primary Keywords
The answer lies in Google – Google My Business to be exact. Because you’re a local business and want to be found when someone searches locally, you need to be using the primary keyword that’s associated with your Google My Business account. By using that keyword or keywords as the case may be, you stand a better chance of being found.
How To Find Your Primary Keywords
- Log in to your Google My Business account by navigating to business.google.com and make sure that you’re logged in using the same Google account that you used when you signed up for Google My Business (GMB).
- Next, click on the Info button from the menu on the left side. You’ll see your business name listed in a large font and then your categories listed below your business name.
- Click on the pencil icon. This is where you’ll see your Primary Category and Additional Categories (if applicable). Please note that you don’t choose what categories are available. You’re at Google’s discretion here. Take note of the Primary category. That word or words is what you need to have on your website to help you be found.
A word of caution: you don’t want to “stuff” your site with these keywords. Google frowns upon that. But you do want to have what’s called a keyword density of about 3%. You can check yours with a site like: https://www.seoreviewtools.com/keyword-density-checker/
Once you’ve added your keyword(s) throughout your page or site, give Google some time to crawl or scan your site. You should see your website slowly climb the ranks of Google
