Most websites that I create have Google Analytics incorporated into it. That way, if you ever wanted to know how many visitors you’ve had to your website, we’d be able to look it up and find out. However, there are two important things you need to know:
- Google Analytics is changing the way they collect data. The traditional way is with a Universal Analytics number (UA). That’s what I’ve used with the past websites. That method is being retired though and will no longer be used to collect data as of July 2023. That gives you one year to switch to their new method called “Google Analytics 4.”
- If you continue to use Google Analytics to track traffic to your website, you’ll want to make sure that you have a privacy policy in place. I talked about privacy policies last month. See my reminder note below.
If you do nothing between now and next July, nothing will change to your website. The only change will be that site traffic will stop being monitored by Google. That may be important to you … it may not.
If you want all the details and a longer, more in-depth read about the switch to Google Analytics 4, you can read Google’s own blog post by clicking here.
