How to Get Your Business Found on Google

When someone searches for what you do, this is how you show up.

This is your Google Business Profile.

It’s what shows up when someone searches for a business like yours.

It includes your name, reviews, photos, hours, and contact info—all in one place.

For a lot of people, this is the first thing they see about your business.

How to Access Your Profile

  1. Go to google.com.

  2. Make sure you’re logged into the Gmail account you used to set up the business. (see the icon in the upper right-hand corner).

  3. In the search bar, type your business name

  4. Look at the top of the search results—your business profile should show up with options to edit, post, add photos, and read reviews.

NOTE: If you haven’t claimed your free Google Business Profile, click on this link to see how to do so.

How Google Decides Who Shows Up

Google wants people to keep using their search. So they reward businesses that make things easy, clear, and helpful for their customers. The more complete and useful your Google Business Profile is, the better experience it creates—and the more likely you are to show up higher.

You don’t need to do everything.

But if you focus on a few key things, you’ll be ahead of most businesses.

01: Have a Complete Profile

Make sure your profile is complete. This includes the name, address, phone number, hours, services offered, descriptions, photos, etc. The more complete it is, the better. Google loves a complete and thorough listing.

02: Keep Your Info Consistent

Your business information should match everywhere online.
If you use: 123 Main Street
Don’t list it somewhere else as:
123 Main St
Keep it the same everywhere.

03: Get Reviews (and Respond!)

Ask your customers for reviews—keep it simple. Use the link Google provides you. (It's the Ask for Reviews button)
When you get one, respond to it. Not just “Thanks”… say something real. Use it as an opportunity for others to see your human side.

04: Add Real Photos

Show your:
• Work
• Space
• Team
Skip stock photos. Real photos build trust.

05: Stay Active

About once a week or every other week, add an update. It can be as simple as adding a photo, a quick note, and a link to your website.
Most people won’t see these posts. But Google will. And that's what matters. They see your profile is active, helping their customers, and then ... they reward you. That's how you move the needle.

Where Most Businesses Go Wrong

This is what I see from small business owners all the time:

  • They set it up once… and never touch it again
  • They don’t add photos (or the photos aren’t great)
  • Their information is incomplete or outdated
  • They ignore reviews—or don’t respond to them
  • Their business info doesn’t match across the internet

You don’t need to be perfect… you just need to be active and consistent.

Viewers vs. Customers

When someone searches for a business like yours, they’ll often see a list of options.
Some will have a website. Some won’t.

And when people want to learn more, they’re going to click the one that does.
So while your Google Business Profile helps you get found, your website helps turn that into a customer.

You need both.

For example: If someone is looking for a plumber and sees two options—one with no website and one with a clean, professional site—most people are going to choose the one with a website where they can learn more.

I can help you create a website that looks great and converts visitors into customers.
But this is what helps get those visitors in the first place.

If You're Feeling Overwhelmed ...

Don’t worry about doing everything at once.

If you were sitting across from me, I’d tell you to start with this:

  • Make sure your profile is filled out completely
  • Add a few good photos
  • Ask for a couple reviews
  • Respond to the ones you have

That alone puts you ahead of a lot of businesses.

Keep it simple. Stay consistent. You’ll be just fine.

For those who would prefer the video explanation and demonstration … it’s about 10 minutes long. 😉
