They say that variety is the spice of life. Mix it up a little. Enjoy some randomness. So how does this apply to your website?
The one page that most people are going to visit is your homepage. That’s the page they most often “land on” when they visit. If you’re the type of business that has customers & clients coming back to your site on a regular basis, it’s good to mix it up a little and add some variety.
Here’s an example:
Bitterroot Bouncers is a local business that specializes in providing children entertainment with an indoor bouncy house and outdoor inflatable rentals. Right now, their indoor bouncy house is temporarily closed. It’s also summertime when outdoor parties and festivals are renting their outdoor rentals. So, instead of showing pictures & videos and catering to the indoor venue, we decided to re-design their homepage so that it focused on their outdoor rentals. That’s smart marketing! But there’s more …
Their original page is still there. It’s just hidden or inactive. At any given moment and with the click of just a couple of buttons behind the scenes, we can switch out the homepage to the original. Genius!
This kind of a marketing strategy for your website has multiple applications. Take for example any business that is seasonal. If you’re a nursery, you can have a homepage that focuses on plants and trees during the spring and then switch it out a harvest and produce homepage in the fall. If you sell a physical product and depend heavily on the Christmas holiday shopping season, change out your homepage to something more seasonal in November and December … and then switch it back in January! In other words, have the homepage of your website focus on one thing during one part of the year and then switch it out to something else at other times of the year.
If you don’t want to have multiple homepages that you alternate out, you can change out just the main picture or video if you’d like. For a couple of years, the Bitter Root Humane Association had a different animal video at the top of their home page just to mix it up a little.
Changing out the homepage of your website or even updating the main picture can not only add a little variety to your site, but when done right it can help market your business in a specific, targeted way to your customers.
