An Easy Way for Customers to Leave a Review

It doesn’t matter what you say. What matters is what your customers and clients have to say. Their voice will always be louder than your own. That’s why it’s so important to have their reviews and testimonials on your website. It’s their experience that will resonate with potential new clients. 

How do you get them to leave a review? 

The best and most popular way is through Google. We all use Google when we’re searching for a plumber, a bakery, etc. A search on Google not only provides us with their hours, address and phone number but it also shows us their reviews. It allows us to see what other customers have had to say about their service or their products. 

What do you do with a review on Google? 

That part is easy. Once they’ve left the review on Google, you can copy and paste that information on to your website. Pick your favorites. 

Who can leave a review on Google? 

Anyone call leave a review. That means you’re going to have the good, the bad and everything in between. There’s a tendency in human nature to want to leave a review if we’ve had a bad experience, the food tasted terrible or we weren’t satisfied for one reason or another. Some will leave a great 5-star review if they were happy too … and those are the ones that you want to have on your website. 

How does a customer leave a review? 

This is where the magic comes in. You need to make it as easy as possible for them to leave a review! The more steps they have to take, the less likely they’ll leave a review. Unless you’re offering an incentive to leave a review, there’s nothing in it for them. So you have to make it as easy as possible. You can’t tell them to go to Google and leave a review. It’s a convoluted mess to do that. But … you can tell them to go to your website and leave a review at the bottom of the homepage!

How do you add a review option to your website?

It’s easy. 

  1. Log in to your Google My Business account. Go to: business.google.com and make sure that in the upper right hand corner of the page you’re logged in with the account that your business is registered under. 
  2. Scroll down about half way on the main page of your Google listing till you see where it says “Get more reviews” and you’ll see a button that says “Share review form.” Click that button … and then click on the URL to copy the link to your clipboard. 
  3. To test the link, open a new tab (best if you use Incognito mode so you’re not logged in to your account) and paste it. The result: It’ll automatically take you to where you can leave a review. One click!
  4. On your website, you can now add a button or some text on your page that simply says, “Leave Us a Review.” Then point the button to the link you just copied and wah-lah! Your visitors now have a quick and easy way to leave you a review. 

To see an example, check out the website I built for Fisher Family Construction. Go to: www.fisherfamilyconstruction.com and you’ll find the “Leave a Review” text in the footer of every page on their website. 

You can use that same link in your social media, emails, etc. I like to send out an email to a client after I’ve completed a website and paste that link in the email and ask them if they would mind leaving me a review. 9 times out of 10 they’ll do that. It’s easy … and when it’s easy, they’re more likely to leave you a review.
